Want more traffic on your Ecommerce website? This is how our Ecommerce SEO Agency achieves consistent SEO success for Ecommerce websites.
1. Assess What’s Working (and don’t destroy it)
The very first step when approaching a new e-commerce SEO project is to figure out exactly what is currently working right now.
Gain access to:
- Google Search Console
- Google Analytics
- Google Ads
- And anything else that can give you data
Then take a look through the search console and figure out exactly which pages are bringing in the most traffic to the website.
For a smaller Ecommerce website, you should also take a look through the different queries the website is getting traffic from on a page by page basis to see if there are any missed opportunities you can address right off the bat.
Do not start deleting pages without first checking if they are bringing in any traffic or have the potential to bring in traffic post optimisations.
Now that we know what is working, we can see what we shouldn’t mess with and can now move on to the research stage, where we will find new ideas on how to grow traffic.
2. Research New Keywords To Target
The next step is to place the singular version of your “seed keywords” into a keyword research tool like ahrefs.
For example, type “washing machine” ahrefs’ keyword explorer and click on the phrase match menu item on the left hand side.
This will bring you back all of the most commonly searched long tail keywords that contain your seed keyword.
You next want to go through and create a list of these, segregated under the following keyword types:
- Buyer intent
- Filtered category pages
- Brand
- Blog
Now take a look through your existing pages and see if it would be beneficial to optimise any of them around your newly found key words.
Make a list of your pages and potential changes, and then go back through and check whether making those changes could have negligible effects on the page’s existing performance.
3. Optimise Existing Pages & Products
We’re now going optimise our existing pages and products around the keywords we found in the previous step.
This could include:
- Adding keyword optimised content
- Adding LSI keywords
- Updating the title tags
- Updating headings and meta descriptions
- Internal linking
- And more
Remember: you can often target multiple keywords with one page by including buyer intent modifiers such as “cheap”, “deals”, “sale”, “buy”, “next day delivery”, “free delivery” in the title and H1 (as well as in the content and meta descriptions).
4. Create New Pages
The final step is to create more filtered category pages and blog posts based on your initial keyword research to increase the number of keywords your website is targeting.
This step is completely scalable and should be repeated on a monthly basis for best results.
When creating new pages and blog posts, be sure to internally link them to your other pages to pass authority around your website and give your side the best chance of ranking in Google.
